Halliday Wine Companion 2024: Fogarty Wine Group Results
The annual release of the Halliday Wine Companion, Australia’s essential guide to the country’s best drops, is an exciting time for wine lovers, aficionados and industry alike. The 2024 edition saw over 8,500 wines tasted, with Chief Editor Campbell Mattinson explaining, “We’ve unearthed some gems and honoured the very best of the best Australia has to offer. Our love for wine has only become stronger after tasting over 8,500 wines across the year – it was a pleasure to taste alongside our expert judges.”
We are pleased to report back some sensational reviews across the Fogarty Wine Group portfolio, including the Lowestoft 2021 La Meilleure Chardonnay scoring 97 points upon its debut. Halliday’s Dave Brookes captured the icon wine as, “Pale straw in the glass with aromas of white peach, nectarine and grapefruit with a nicely dialled-in struck match/sulphide nuance and hints of soft spice, oatmeal, white flowers, nougat, lemon curd and clotted cream. There is impressive detail, clarity and composition here with a long, wonderfully expressive pure flow across the palate on rails of mineral and stone, not a hair out of place, a picture of tension and release. Another standout was the Dalwhinnie 2020 The Pinnacle Shiraz, which was awarded an incredible 97 points. Chief Editor of Halliday Wine Companion 2024 Campbell Mattinson wrote: "Fabulous wine. Powerful, complex and long. Pure plum into meaty spice into forest berries into fragrant herbs. You can taste the fruit, the soil and the wood, but it all presents as one. And then there's the finish. What a finish. Structured, textural, flavoursome and long. This wine is the complete package."
