The Deep Woods Estate Shiraz et al is a consistent best seller, with quality delivering well above its price point.
Year upon year this wine is made with outstanding Margaret River fruit. Winemaking only attempts to harness the delicious flavours that are a hallmark to Shiraz and Malbec from this region. Think supple, fine tannins and juicy dark fruits mingling on the palate with elegant natural acidity.
On the popularity of this wine, Deep Woods Estate Chief Winemaker Julian Langworthy said, "The addition of Malbec gives it that x-factor, the underpants on the outside superhero style. Lowly high notes of blue fruits with a floral violet lift. It's spicy and at the same time refreshing, smooth with silky tannins. Massively drinkable. I absolutely love this wine; it has become very popular and is so well received."
Deep crimson with bright purple hues.
Crushed mulberry and blackberry, with savoury layers of woody spice and black pepper.
The palate is generous and vibrant, loaded with juicy plum and black cherry character. Notes of black pepper and sweet spice add complexity. Tannins are fine and pervasive creating length and savoury texture.
This wine may be enjoyed on release but will find further complexity three to four years from vintage.
2022 was a truly exceptional vintage in Margaret River. The season started beautifully with a wet spring and late flowering, followed by a warm and dry season, producing refined flavour, great elegance and real personality.
Shiraz, Malbec & Tempranillo were destemmed and vinified separately as well as some whole bunch fermentation on select Shiraz parcels. Pumpovers and delestage were employed to extract fine tannin, colour and vibrant fruit characters. After 12-14 days, when fruit flavour and tannin extraction were optimal, the skins were pressed, and the wine fermented to dryness in tank. The wines were then racked to French oak barrels, 15% new, for 6-9 months before blending.

This exceptional blend of Shiraz, Malbec and Tempranillo has been a winner for Deep Woods from the outset, consistently delivering a wine that punches so far above its weight. I’ve aways thought the perfumed lift and sweet fruit of the palate from the Tempranillo is the key to it. Another cracker demanding to be drunk. Combines power and elegance.

The 'et al' here are malbec and tempranillo, so this is a spicy, savoury and juicy red. It is immediately appealing with dark red fruits mixed with red licorice and warm spices. Fuller bodied but not weighty, with grainy tannins and an appealing rusticity.
