Why You'll Love This Wine
winemaker's note
“I’ve always wanted to make a single varietal Cabernet Franc from Margaret River. We hand-picked and hand-sorted a tiny quantity of fruit sourced from two mature vineyards in the Yallingup Hills to make our 100% Cab Franc. Made in a vibrant, modern style, this wine is highly perfumed, complex, has a generous palate and fine, velvety tannins.”

This wine may be enjoyed on release but will find further complexity three to five years from vintage.
Technical
vintage
We had a mild spring with adequate soil moisture, resulting in a slightly later season. A moderate summer led to ideal ripening conditions with little pressure in the vineyard and a lack of any major rain events during the ripening season. Consistently warm days and cool evenings made for great retention of acid within the grapes, whilst achieving optimal fruit expression.
winemaking
The Deep Woods Estate Cabernet Franc is an expressive blend of two mature vineyards in the Yallingup hills region of Margaret River that captures and frames the beauty of this wonderful varietal.
The fruit was hand-picked and sorted, gently macerated for 10 days before maturation for 9 months in seasoned French oak.

Western Australia is producing some of the country’s best Cabernet Franc right now, and never is this more obvious than when drinking the 2023 Deep Woods Estate Cabernet Franc. Leading with loads of leafy cassis, sweet tobacco and raspberry, the palate is shaped by savoury, spicy and lacy tannin. Everything works in harmony here – the fruit is tucked into the folds of chalky texture, and while being varietally bang-on, the wine also provides pleasure in its jubilant, juicy way. A ripping Cabernet Franc. Super exciting.
