Why you'll love this wine
If you haven't heard of Verdejo before, you're not alone. Outside of its native Spain there are only a handful of other vineyards planted around the world, with just 11 producers of Verdejo wine across Australia! This makes our small parcel of Verdejo in Margaret River extremely special, and we are very excited to share this alternative varietal with you.
Millbrook Winemaker Emma Gillespie said, “[she strives] to produce a varietal in Australia that not many other people do by celebrating this alternative varietal grown in Margaret River.
“This is such a rare varietal outside of its homeland in Spain, grown on one of our company-owned vineyards in Margaret River. Often compared to whites such as Sauvignon Blanc, we wanted to make sure to pull away from making it like any other white wine. This allowed us to create a wine yielding maximum expression of the varietal characters, by taking a more minimalist winemaking approach, using fewer additions during the making of the wine."
This vibrant wine bursts with ripe citrus, apple, lemon blossom and white peach with a zippy sherbet acidity. Transport yourself to sun-drenched Spain and try the 2022 Regional Verdejo now.

vintage
2022 was a truly exceptional vintage in Margaret River. The season started beautifully with a wet spring and late flowering, leading to healthy vine growth. This was followed by a very warm and dry growing season, which kept disease pressure low. Yield was low which has produced concentrated flavours and fantastic acidity.
winemaking
This select parcel of Margaret River Verdejo was harvested in the cool night and transported to the winery in the early hours of the morning. The fruit was gently pressed, taking only the pure free-run juice, before racking from any solids. Fermentation was carried out at cool temperatures to retain freshness. A small portion was fermented in barrel which has added a crunchy texture to the final blend. This wine underwent minimal fining and filtration before being bottled.

Reviews
Halliday Wine Companion 2024
A variety that offers enticing aromatics from white blossom to ginger spice as much as flavour (think stone fruit and grapefruit). This is highly savoury with some quince paste, lemon curd, a whiff of white pepper and a lick of phenolics adding a textural element. Refreshing and dry yet best with food.

Really pale and youthful in the glass. Aromas of citrus rind, white flowers and a green, woodsy edge. Textured, bright and snappy on the palate, with grapefruit, just-ripe nectarine and wheat puff. There's also a savoury, saline zip at the end.
