Eight Fogarty Wine Group Wines Listed in Ray Jordan's Top 100 Reds 2022

We are excited to announce that eight Fogarty Wine Group wines have been named in Ray Jordan’s Top 100 Reds for 2022.

The Deep Woods 2020 Estate Shiraz et al was awarded 93 points and listed as Ray Jordan’s Best Value Wines priced between $15 and $20.

Two other FWG wines were awarded 95 points: the Evans & Tate 2020 Single Vineyard Shiraz Cabernet and the Millbrook 2020 Estate Shiraz Viognier, some of the highest points given out by Ray this year.

The Top 100 is an annual wine review by Ray Jordan and The West, to showcase Australia’s best value wines under $50. This year’s competition saw over 600 wines tasted, with only the top 15% making it into the Top 100 for 2022.

A huge congratulations to all the winemaking teams on another fantastic result.

FWG Top 100 Reds

Deep Woods 2020 Estate Shiraz et al

“It’s a shiraz malbec and tempranillo combination. Slightly more robust and denser than previous vintages, no doubt a product of the small, concentrated fruit from the ‘20 vintage. Heaps of energetic lively fruit with firm supporting tannins. Great wine for pasta dishes with red meat sauce. I tasted it a few months apart and found the thing had come together even better.” – 93 points and Best Value Wine $15-20

Deep Woods 2020 Ebony Cabernet Shiraz

“Remarkable that this exceptional value red wine is still in this category. Over the years it has regularly been judged best value wine and this is another supreme example of the easy drinking style that has made it so popular. Spicy lift to the plush fruits is so appealing.” – 92 Points

Evans & Tate 2020 Single Vineyard Shiraz Cabernet

“From the start this a captivating blend. Scented notes of violets and red berry strike immediately. The palate is a sumptuous feast of fruit with a complex savoury dark chocolate addition. Retains a smooth and refined palate structure.” – 95 Points

Evans & Tate 2020 Gnangara Shiraz

“One of WA’s most recognisable wines, and one which has been through a recent rejuvenation. This one is fleshy and smooth with a peppery earthy character pervading the fruity mix of juicy plums and dark chocolate. It’s balanced and seamlessly structured.” – 89 Points

Millbrook 2020 Estate Shiraz Viognier

“Wow, there is plenty happening here. It’s dark and almost opaque in colour. Comes off a small vineyard on the estate which is very low-yielding. That accounts for the concentration and fruit power. The viognier is hidden at first but then merges with its spicy ginger and orange peel character.” – 95 Points

Millbrook 2020 Regional Tempranillo

“You want a ready to drink, thoroughly gluggable tempranillo? Well, here’s your pick. Plush, generous and fruit driven displaying cherry and plum flavours and a dollop of chocolate richness. A little spicy influence and a dry savour slightly dusty finish. Nice wine for the short term.” – 91 Points

Millbrook 2020 Regional GSM – 91 Points

Smithbrook 2019 Estate Red Blend

“A soft and fleshy blend of cabernet sauvignon, merlot and cabernet franc that hangs together rather well to produce a supple smoothly textured wine for drinking in the next few years. Bright and lively with delicious red berry fruit flavours.” – 89 Points
