Best in Show and Gold Medal at the Decanter World Wine Awards 2023

Best in Show and Gold Medal at the Decanter World Wine Awards 2023

We are thrilled to announce that Fogarty Wine Group has been awarded a Best in Show, a Gold Medal and 10 Silver Medals at the world’s most recognised wine show, the Decanter World Wine Awards (DWWA) 2023.

The Evans & Tate 2018 Redbrook Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon has been awarded a prestigious ‘Best in Show’ title. This Cabernet was awarded 97 points – the highest score given at this year’s show, and was one of only three Cabernet Sauvignons to be awarded ‘Best in Show’, solidifying this award-winning wine as one of the best Cabernets in the world.

Senior Winemaker Matt Byrne is thrilled with the success at this year’s competition. “Our Redbrook Vineyard in the heart of the Wilyabrup area in Margaret River has consistently grown special Cabernet Sauvignon since the 1970’s, so when the extraordinary 2018 vintage came along, we knew we had the potential to elevate this wine into the stratosphere – which the judges at the DWWA also recognised!”

We are very pleased to be releasing one of the world's best Cabernet on the back of this result. Shop the 2018 Redbrook Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon online here.

Dalwhinnie’s 2020 The Eagle was awarded 95 points and a Gold Medal at this year's show. The wine was among the top 36 Shiraz wines in the world, and placed in the top 4% of all wines. It was also the only Shiraz from the Pyrenees to be awarded a Gold Medal in this year's show. This marks the third consecutive year that Dalwhinnie's The Eagle Shiraz has been awarded a Gold Medal at the Decanter World Wine Awards. This is testament to the iconic Eagle vineyard and winemaking expertise. We are offering our loyal Dalwhinnie members the opportunity to secure a pre-order allocation here.

About Decanter World Wine Awards

The DWWA was launched in 2004, which makes this the 20th year of the world’s largest and most influential global wine competition. The 2023 competition saw 18,250 wines from 57 countries tasted by 250 of the world’s most trusted wine experts, including 53 Masters of Wine.

Decanter World Wine Awards pay tremendous attention to detail in order to ensure the integrity of the competition. Platinum Medal winners are re-tasted fourfold by the co-chairs to determine that only the “best of the best” are awarded ‘Best in Show’ titles.

“Always judged blind, this re-tasting comprises of 97-point wines only, so selecting a Top 50 is no mean feat. To the Olympics analogy, this round of judging is the competitive finals, and there are only 50 top seats out of the 18,250 wines judged. As a percentage, that’s a mere 0.27%.”
