Why you'll love this wine
A beautiful deep dive into Margaret River’s lauded red blend is well worth the experience, after an extraordinary vintage for the ages in the region.
Senior winemaker Matt Byrne thinks grape growing is central to creating memorable wines. A philosophical perfect match to chief viticulturist John Fogarty’s meticulous management and fruit sourcing at our extensive vineyard blocks. The duo have raised the bar of our Cabernet-based red wines over the years.
Their thirst and skill for making ultra-premium wine is evident as each new vintage gets bottled – the 2019 Evans & Tate Redbrook Estate Cabernet Merlot the latest example of this cohesion.
This award-winning wine has numerous gold medals and it’s easy to see why.
Subtle oak integration adds lovely spice to a palate of blueberry and menthol, with violet perfumes. Soft and balanced, this no-fuss Cabernet is really smooth, very approachable and already quite elegant.
Tasting Notes
colour
Rich purple-red with a vibrant purple rim.
aroma
Distinctly Margaret River; driven by pure Cabernet Sauvignon aromas of blackberry, plum, bay leaf and a touch of black olive.
palate
The Merlot fruit, and a small splash of Malbec, add texture, balance, length and a luxurious fragrance to create a seamless, uniquely Margaret River red.
cellaring
Will show youthful, perfumed notes with fresh fruit flavours upon release. For those after additional complexity and softness, three or more years of bottle age is suggested.
Technical
vintage
The 2019 growing season was not without challenge, but our mature vineyards, as always, excelled. A mild and very steady vintage allowed for slow, measured flavour and tannin development. The result is medium-bodied wines with lovely perfume and wonderful fine-boned tannin structures.
winemaking
Pre-ferment cold soak maceration for three days on the Cabernet Sauvignon and five days for the other varieties. The Merlot and Cabernet Franc fermented in open-top fermenters. Ten-day ferment for the Cabernet Sauvignon, and seven days for the Merlot and Cabernet Franc. 100% French oak used across the board with 15% new. 500L puncheons used for the Merlot and Cabernet Franc (both matured for 12 months) and 300L hogsheads for the Cabernet Sauvignon (matured for 15 months).

Reviews
Erin Larkin, Halliday Wine Companion 2023
With 14/4/1% merlot/cabernet franc/malbec. All varieties fermented and matured separately, in French oak for up to 14 months (15% new). This is routinely a very smart wine and this year is no exception. Savoury overtones colour the nose with layers of peppercorn, hung deli meat and ironstone/ferrous notes, while the juicy undercurrent of red and black fruits courses beneath it all. Compelling drinking.

Ray Jordan Wine Guide 2023
A most stylish expression of the cooler 2019 vintage In Margaret River. It all clings together so beautifully with fine tannins, smoothly applied oak and medium-bodied fruit showing more sinewy bay leaf like characters. Has a minerally oyster shell aroma which extends into the palate. This will be better for a few years in the cellar to fill out.
