Winemakers Notes

"It's a treat to have a wine available that has gained complex and flavourful characters with cellaring time in bottle. A great white wine option that leads through autumn and into winter, paired with comforting dishes like roast chicken or pumpkin & sage risotto."

Winemaker Emma Gillespie

Tasting Notes

colour

Pale gold in colour.

aroma

White nectarine and lemon curd nuances with roasted almonds.

palate

White peaches and pastry crust. The wine has intensity, power and richness with a wonderful line and length. A well-balanced Chardonnay with a pithy texture and supple oak tannins.

cellaring

Drink now or cellar for 5–10 years from vintage.

Technical

Vintage

The 2020 vintage was moderate, mild and a wonderful year. Rainfall in early January renewed canopies across the region and resulted in beautifully ripe, varietally pure wines that are brimming with perfect, delicate, natural acidity

Winemaking

Fruit was sourced from the Talisman vineyard in the Geographe region and was handpicked in the cool of the night.

Chilled before being whole bunched pressed directly to new and one-year-old French barriques for wild fermentation.

After fermentation, the barrels were topped and stirred monthly. After six months in oak, the wine was then bottled in December 2020.

Reviews

Ray Jordan, West Australian Wine Review 2024

This is an immensely powerful and complex Chardonnay already. It comes from Geographe fruit. The nose suggests some lees work and barrel fermentation adding to the complexity. Toasty struck match notes with a spicy light stone fruit mix. Dry savoury finish with a chalky edge completes an excellent wine.

Erin Larkin, Halliday Wine Companion 2023

Fruit was whole bunch pressed directly to French oak (80% new) for fermentation, fortnightly bâtonnage. This is a big wine: creamy, full bodied, rich, opulent, nutty, dense ... all the things. It is old-school, but within that, it is balanced and very satisfying. Horses for courses, this is a glass of largesse; a voluminous wine that will delight many a lover.
