Tasting Notes
colour
Intense purple-red with a black heart, typical of Shiraz.
aroma
Ripe mulberry, black cherry and blood plum fruit with a perfumed lift.
palate
An intensely fruit driven wine led by ripe mulberry and cherry flavours overlaid with earth, peat, roasted spices and peppercorn that captivate the palate. Fine, silken tannins provide a wonderful textural element.
cellaring
Drinking beautifully on release, but will continue to develop over the next five to eight years.
Technical
vintage
A prolonged cool and wet growing season led to later maturity and, therefore, later harvest dates for many varieties. This allowed the Shiraz fruit to accumulate great intensity of colour and flavour, with lovely aromatics and superb tannin ripeness.
winemaking
The fruit was de-stemmed, then cold soaked prior to fermentation, which helps to produce a fruit-driven, aromatic wine with a lush, soft texture. As it fermented, each batch was thoroughly aerated. The wine was then gently pressed, before maturation in French oak barriques, hogsheads and puncheons for twelve to fourteen months. Following blending, the wine was filtered once prior to bottling and maturation.
