2019 Mesa Shiraz
Tasting Notes
colour
Deep dark purple.
aroma
Intense aromas of fresh black and red berries with delicate touches of cinnamon and nutmeg spice.
palate
Mesa Shiraz is an elegant yet rewarding cool-climate wine from the Pyrenees in Victoria. It exhibits a beautifully ripe core of dark fruits, lifted by complex notes of cinnamon and star anise. Powder fine tannins and subtle French oak complete this regional classic.Â
cellaring
This wine will cellar for at least ten years.
Technical
winemaking
Sourced from the original Dalwhinnie vineyard along with our Forest Hutt plantings, a little further down the hill.
Fruit was harvested in distinct batches and fermented separately for 10–14 days. The wine was then pressed to tank to undergo malolactic fermentation and then racked to largely seasoned French oak barrels. After 14 months maturation, the barrels were emptied and some Moonambel and Eagle Shiraz barrels were included in the final blend for further depth and complexity.

Reviews
Huon Hooke, The Real Review 2022
Very deep, bright red/purple colour. Spicy, peppery, fresh earth and red fruit aromas of some complexity, especially considering its youth. The wine is medium to full-bodied and soft-textured, with no shortage of tannin, but the texture is supple and drying, the fine-grained powdery tannins augmenting the savoury flavours. There is abundant fruit within but the overall style is savoury, food friendly and very stylish. Very long aftertaste. Great value.
