Why You'll Love This Wine

Margaret River is quickly being recognised as a natural home for Malbec to thrive in and the Single Vineyard Malbec is a world-class example of this native French variety.

2022 was an exceptional vintage in Margaret River and pristine Malbec fruit was sourced from the family-run Carter Road Vineyard in the heart of Wilyabrup, producing a wine that is intense yet delicate. The palate is juicy, with bright red fruits and a lovely savoury spice. This is a stunning wine showcasing the bright future of single varietal Malbec in Margaret River.

Tasting Notes

colour

Stunning depth and intensity typical of the Malbec variety – a black iodine core with a dark purple rim.

aroma

A wine that achieves the balancing act of being perfectly ripe and rich, with a lovely vibrancy and lift in the aroma and palate. Dark plums, olives and effortless spice on the nose.

palate

Violets, blood plum, bright red fruits and savoury spice are found on the palate. Delicious, chewy tannins and a soft, fine texture from perfectly integrated oak.

cellaring

Drink within five to ten years of vintage.

Technical

vintage

2022 was a truly exceptional vintage in Margaret River. The season started beautifully with a wet spring and late flowering, followed by a warm and dry season, producing refined flavour, great elegance and real personality.

winemaking

Fruit was picked cool in the early morning before being cold soaked on skins for 5 days. The must was partially wild fermented in a small open fermenter with gentle handling on skins to extract colour and structure without any harsh tannins.

The wine went straight into French oak puncheons (500L barrels) with 15% being new. These larger puncheon barrels ensure perfume and freshness is retained whilst achieving a silky and refined palate along with textural complexity – a difficult goal to achieve in red winemaking.

The result is a world-class Malbec wine rarely seen as a straight varietal in Australia, let alone Margaret River.
