Why you'll love this wine

The 2019 Redbrook is the culmination of the small parcel of extraordinary quality fruit grown on the Redbrook vineyard (planted in 1975) meeting restrained winemaking to produce a rare style of wine in the Margaret River winescape.

A perfumed, elegant, medium-bodied expression of this icon variety which has been shaped by the equally elegant vintage experienced in Margaret River in 2019. A wine renowned for retaining extraordinary freshness and fragrance due to its slow rate of ageing.

Tasting Notes

colour

Vibrant, deep purple/black with a dense purple rim.

aroma

A potently perfumed, layered wine that showcases the essence and class of Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon. Cassis, black olive and dried herb with tobacco leaf, redcurrant and floral notes. An underlying nuance of cedar and lightly roasted spices from maturation in well-seasoned French oak hogsheads (300L).

palate

The palate is seamless and fine with tremendous length and intensity of flavour. It has a lovely savoury tannin grip that Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon is renowned for.

cellaring

Will continue to develop complexity for up to 15 years from vintage.

Technical

vintage

The 2019 growing season was not without challenge, but our mature vineyards, as always, excelled. A mild and very steady vintage allowed for slow, measured flavour and tannin development. The result is medium-bodied wines with lovely perfume and wonderful fine-boned tannin structures.

winemaking

Fruit was transferred to a small fermenter where it was cold soaked for 5 days before the onset of wild fermentation. A yeast culture was then added mid-way through fermentation (which lasted 10 days) after the desired texture, structure and style was achieved. Following pressing, the wine was transferred into a combination of new (21%) and used French oak hogsheads (300L) where they underwent malolactic fermentation. After 15 months in barrel, each individual barrel was tasted and assessed to determine which barrels were included in the final blend. The wine was then carefully blended and bottled without fining or filtration, followed by extended maturation in bottle prior to release.

Reviews

Halliday Wine Companion 2024

Here’s some advice: decant this then prepare dinner, maybe a rack of lamb or roast beef, lots of roasted vegetables including beetroot, gather friends for a feast and pour the wine. It should have unfurled in the time it took to do the aforementioned. Wonderful fragrance and flavours of mulberries, cranberries, cinnamon and plenty of cedary/woodsy spices from the oak. It’s full bodied, densely packed with flavour and has no shortage of tannins, albeit ripe and grainy tannins in a youthful context. Its best days are ahead of it.
