Three Trophies, Ten Gold Medals & Wine of Show at the Royal Queensland Wine Awards 2022

We are extremely excited to announce that Fogarty Wine Group’s Evans & Tate, Deep Woods Estate and Lowestoft have been awarded three Trophies and ten Gold Medals at the Royal Queensland Wine Awards (RQWA) 2022.

Built on longstanding traditions, the RQWA competition has been running for 143 years and is one of Australia’s most prestigious capital city wine shows. Every year the RQWA is the first capital city wine show to judge the new season’s vintages with a team of expert wine judges from across the country. This year’s show saw over 1,430 wine submissions across 212 Australian wineries.

Our Lowestoft 2021 Single Vineyard Pinot Noir was crowned Best Pinot Noir of Show, Best Red Wine of Show and Grand Champion Wine of Show, with winemaker Liam McElhinney being awarded the 2022 Angelo Puglisi fellowship for this outstanding result. The fellowship grants funds to further knowledge in the national and international wine industry through travel, training and education. We are extremely proud of Liam and his amazing achievement.

On today’s recent results the RQWA said:

Following four days of judging, we can now reveal the winner of Australia's best wine! Congratulations to The Lowestoft Estate's Single Vineyard Pinot Noir 2021.

It beat 1,430 wines from 212 Australian wineries and also claimed the historic Stodart Trophy for the best red table wine of show.”

On this incredible achievement Liam said:

"The team and I are thrilled that our 2021 Lowestoft Single Vineyard [Woodlands] Pinot Noir has achieved these enormous accolades. We are also humbled when we see the other Gold medal wines from seriously established producers.

Huge thanks must go to Paul Laing, our fantastic grower, who consistently delivers amazing Pinot Noir from his Coal Valley Vineyard. We’ve had a dream run with our Lowestoft Pinot Noir wines over the past six months and we’re really proud to be showcasing another epic and very unique Southern Tasmanian vineyard site."
