The 2014 vintage in WA was superb for all varietals. The warm Geographe region is perfectly suited to this rich red varietal.
The fruit was sourced from a ten-year old vineyard on the sandy flats of the Ferguson Valley near Dardanup. It was destemmed and fermented for 12 days on skins, pressed and then matured in new American and French oak barriques (25% of each) for 22 months. Total production was four barriques. Bottled 17 December 2015.
Braised oxtail stew, black olives and brown rice.
Hulking wine. Thick with tannin but also with flavour. Serve this and it will command the room. Intense blackberry, fresh leather, boot polish, vanillin. You can't help but be impressed by both its power and its length.95
