Why you'll love this wine
The 2017 Redbrook Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon exemplifies the best of Margaret River. Awarded 96 points in the Halliday Wine Companion 2022, renowned wine critic Erin Larkin said:
"The cooler year has birthed yet another Cabernet of delicacy, length and finesse. Matt Byrne's Redbrook Reserve Cabernet is worthy of the same praise heaped upon prior vintages. Succulent red fruits and densely packed flavour held together with fine-knit tannins. Ready to drink now, but with a determined future in the cellar, too – this is what defines the wonder of great Margaret River Cabernet."
Carefully cellared and bottle aged for six years, this is an absolutely remarkable wine with intense flavours of bay leaf, blackcurrant, olive tapenade and cocoa, enveloped by dense, ripe tannins.

Technical
vintage
A prolonged cool and wet growing season meant the vines were lush and healthy heading into ripening. This resulted in later harvest dates, accentuated by the cool and wet ripening months; conditions not experienced in Western Australia for more than ten years.
winemaking
Hand-picked exclusively from our Wilyabrup vineyards. Pre-ferment cold soak maceration for five days followed by simplistic winemaking to ensure the fruit sings. Cool, even ten-day ferment with no post-ferment extended maceration required for the 2017 wine. All pressings returned back into the free-run, due to the cooler vintage, then direct to 300L French Hogshead barrels (20% new, balance one- and two-year old) for malolactic fermentation and maturation. Matured for 11 months to retain perfume and the structure.

96The West Australian Wine Guide 2023
Unmistakably cabernet from the first whiff. Pronounced bay leaf, bramble fruit, blackcurrant and cedar. It’s a pleasure to see a current release premium cabernet of five years of age already in its peak-drinking window. Flavours are dry, complex and evolve over 30 seconds on the palate. Dense blackberry, toast, vanilla and cocoa linger long. Tannins are ripe and structure a dense, chewy palate. Already in its peak-drinking window and can be enjoyed over the next 8 years. Top Rated.

Ray Jordan Wine Guide 2021
Displays the highly scented aromatics of this pretty vintage. Bay leaf and red berry aromas merging with olive tapenade and deeper blackcurrant fruits. The palate is intense, with powdery tannins threading deep into the fruit and supported with some nice fine-grained oak. Has a firmish structure displaying great poise.
