Bright red with medium intensity.
This aromatically charged Pinot leaps from the glass displaying dark cherry, wild strawberry with underlying earthy savoury notes. The technique of whole bunch fermentation adds a gamey, stalky, complexity to the aroma.
The palate is medium-weighted with bright, jubey red fruits. These complex favours are enhanced by a crisp zippy acid backbone, which promotes freshness.
The growing season leading up to the 2020 Vintage was quite typical. Slightly lower than average rainfall, however adequate to all dams and the soil profile in readiness for the spring growth stage. Spring weather conditions were dry and mild, perfect for balanced vine canopies. During the critical ripening stages, Pemberton once again had mild temperate days with cool nights. Cooler conditions promote vibrant favoured whites, and the reds were picked just in time before the onset of winter rains.
The fruit was hand-picked and sorted, then destemmed to an open fermenter, including 20% whole bunches for complexity and texture. Following a short cold soak, before ferment kicking of, the wine was tasted daily and plunged as required for 14 days then matured for eight months in new (25%) and one-year-old French barriques.
