Tasting Notes

colour

Vibrant crimson with ruby hues.

aroma

Bright cranberry and plum aromas evolve in the glass revealing a lifted, sweet perfume of pomegranate, blood orange and exotic spices.

palate

The palate is supple and lithe with plush, velvet tannins carrying waves of bright raspberry and dark cherry flavours with a fine thread of acidity weaving everything together.

Technical

vintage

Constant spring winds during budburst caused low vine yields. The region experienced cooler than average temperatures over the growing season causing a longer ripening period with delayed harvest dates. The driest vintage to date producing extremely high-quality fruit.

winemaking

Small parcels from the Lowestoft vineyard were fermented in open top fermenters. Hand-plunged every 12 hours to gently extract flavour and tannin while retaining elegance and perfume. Matured for 10 months in seasoned French oak puncheons (500L). Minimal intervention prior to bottling has ensured a wine of immense quality.

Reviews

Tyson Stelzer, Halliday Wine Companion

Lowestoft Vineyard; up to 50% whole bunches; gentle hand plunging; matured 10 months in 25% new large-format French oak. The 2020 vintage secures Lowestoft among Tasmania's A-league, but it's going to be a long time before the full magnificence of its flagship is realised. The coiled potential on display here is something to behold, with pristine and precise black and red cherry fruit intricately woven with the perfumed allure of whole bunches and the fine-grained framework of top-class French oak. Brilliant.

Gary Walsh, The Wine Front 2022

Juicy red cherry, autumnal and spicy, aniseed and orange peel, floral with it. Medium-bodied, supple, raspberry and cool blue fruit, fine graphite tannin, frisky acidity, cool clean lines, with a tea-like flavour and a fine dusty grab to tannin on the finish. Fresh, stylish, and very good drinking. Excellent Pinot.
