Why you'll love this wine
Exclusive to Online and Cellar Door
This is a super special wine – the first ever release of our G2 Cabernet Sauvignon, with fruit sourced from the unique Gibb Road Vineyard, Block "G2". This block is a relatively steep west facing slope, with deep ironstone rich gravels.
The Gibb Road Vineyard is an anomaly for Deep Woods Estate because it isn’t in the Yallingup Hills – it is instead part of the Treeton sub-region, in eastern Margaret River. This is a cooler, later ripening site and produces Cabernet Sauvignon fruit with the highest natural acidity that we have ever seen brought into the winery.
This wine is stylistically different to our Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon. Our Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon is all about silky tannin and ripe, dark plums, whereas the Single Vineyard G2 Cabernet Sauvignon is more akin to crunchy red fruit, with ripe herbaceous aromas of bay leaf and sage. Awarded four Trophies at the Margaret River Wine Show 2022, this is a unique, delicious and award-winning Cabernet Sauvignon. A wine for the decades.

Tasting Notes
colour
The colour is epic. Inky dark in colour, with bright crimson and purple hues.
aroma
The nose is bursting with crunchy redcurrants, lifted cassis and ripe bay leaf aromas.
palate
Zesty red fruits, bay leaf and sage reflect the cooler, later ripening vineyard site. The palate is powerful and structured with stunning fine-grained tannins. It’s defining feature is its beautiful fine-boned nature and a live, linear palate providing a crunchy, fresh, long and rewarding finish.
cellaring
Delicious now, but this is a wine for the decades.
Technical
vintage
The 2020 vintage was a brilliant season in Margaret River. A warm and dry season with below-average crop yield allowed for perfect tannin development and an incredible intensity of flavour. The resulting 2020 wines show amazing brightness and clarity, intense and charming fruit character and a youthful exuberance, which ensure enjoyment as both young and older wines.
winemaking
The Deep Woods Single Vineyard wines exemplify the diversity of Margaret River’s distinct subregions. The Single Vineyard G2 Cabernet Sauvignon comes from the unique Gibb Block 2 Vineyard in the Treeton subregion of eastern Margaret River. This block is a relatively steep west facing slope with deep ironstone rich gravels. This is a cooler, later ripening site and produces Cabernet Sauvignon fruit with the highest natural acidity that we have ever seen. The 2020 vintage saw a low crop yield, producing fruit with exquisite flavour concentration.
The G2 Block fruit was the last vineyard to be picked during harvest. Grapes were fermented over 14 days before being pressed to tank and then racked to barrel for MLF and oak ageing. The oak regime was 20% new French oak, with the remainder 1–2-year-old French oak barrels. Barrels were emptied in August 2021 before being bottled in November 2021 with one year of bottle aging prior to release.

Reviews
James Suckling 2022
A deep and dark centre palate of crushed blackcurrants, spices and walnuts. Medium to full body, creamy tannins and a stone, oyster shell and iodine undertone to the composed fruit finish. Really dark fruit in the centre palate. Solid Cabernet sauvignon.

Beautiful Cab Sav
I have only tasted this wine at the cellar door, but I know it is a beautiful, elegant red wine. I have just bought another couple of bottles to put down in the cellar with the one I bought after the tasting. It will be hard not to open a bottle in the next few years as I am sure it will improve over time.

Thank you Deep Woods Winery for the G2
A wonderful example of good cab sav, elegant & well balanced, great fruit & subtle oak flavour. I do also enjoy wines with a reasonable alcohol level (14% in this wine). An enjoyable drop.

Love it I big fan of Deep wood wines I think it need cellar for 2 more years However it is a stunning wine

Delicious Cabernet for special occassions
This is a lovely wine driven by excellent fruit and layers of oak that complement the flavour rather than overpowering it. It drinks surprisingly well now, however knowing deep woods reds, I can sense that it 2 years it will transform into something much more complex.

Impressive Margaret river Cabernet.
Great drop from the Deep Woods brand. The single vineyard range are punching way above their price point. Has great potential to be aged another 5 years and would recommend giving it another couple of years for it to really hit its stride.
