This is one of the best wines that Deep Woods Estate makes. It's the one that I cellar for special occasions and also drink on a Tuesday with pizza.
Julian Langworthy, Chief Winemaker
Deep crimson with purple hues.
Brimming with aromas of violets, blackberry bramble and bay leaf.
Full and rich with notes of dark chocolate, bramble and cassis. Soft, ripe tannin abounds the palate and provides both structure and length.
This wine may be enjoyed on release but is capable of ageing and gaining complexity for 10 years from vintage.
The 2020 vintage was a brilliant season in Margaret River. A warm and dry season with below-average crop yield allowed for perfect tannin development and an incredible intensity of flavour. The resulting 2020 wines show amazing brightness and clarity, intense and charming fruit character and a youthful exuberance, which ensure enjoyment as both young and older wines.
Fruit was crushed into separate fermenters and pump-overs and delestage were used to extract tannin and colour. After 10–14 days, the ferments were pressed before completing primary fermentation to dryness in tank. The wine was then racked into tight grain, thin stave Bordelaise French oak barriques, 20% of which were new and matured for 18 months before blending.

WA Good Food Guide Top 25 Wines of 2022
The judges found this the most pleasing, balanced blend. Gentle, soft and succulent, it’s elegant with long lines of tannin, plus palate-resetting acidity. While fruit-forward and youthful, it also feels fragrant and pretty with good intensity and concentration. A sense of finesse here.
Erin Larkin, Halliday Wine Companion 2023
2020 was a glorious vintage and it's here for all to see. Structural, dense, concentrated and broody, the length of flavour tails out through the long finish – in fact, far longer than any $35* wine has any business being.
*Please note this wine is $40
Ray Jordan Wine Guide 2023
A model of stylish expression, displaying the virtues of these two varieties in Margaret River in a very good year. It’s more medium bodied with a seamless integrated palate showing fine chalky tannins, fine well managed oak and leafy black fruits. A little violet and dark bitter chocolate adds further complexity.
