Technical
vintage
Another fortunate vintage for the Margaret River Region, especially when compared to what some other regions in parts of Australia had to endure. A very early start and finish to the vintage due to a dry and warm spring which warmed the soil and promoted early and healthy vine growth. The white harvest was over quick with temperatures in early March then moderating, which slowed ripening in the reds, allowing flavour to intensify and tannins to soften.
winemaking
The grapes were harvested between midnight and sunrise which ensured the fruit reached the winery as cool as possible. Following a light pressing, the juice was then fermented at cool temperatures to encourage vibrant aromas, texture and overall varietal character. On completion of fermentation, the batches were chilled, blended and lightly fined before being stabilised and filtered only once to produce a bottle ready wine. This minimal handling had helped retain the attractive primary fruit flavours and aromas.
