The wine shows classic varietal expression of red cherry, strawberry, and earthy forest floor. Subtle notes of wood spice and faintly charry complexities are derived from judicious use of French oak.
The palate is graceful and long, combining toasted spice and wild berry nuances alongside silky fine tannins.
Abundant winter rainfall leading into the 18 vintage filled dams and promoted vine canopy growth. A cool spring resulted in slower maturity but promoted fruit flavours in both whites and reds. Occasional rainfall during the harvest period provided some challenges. However, a dedicated viticultural team helped procure clean fruit despite disease pressure. Reds benefited greatly from a warm and dry Autumn and have resulted in some of our ripest reds for some years.
The fruit was hand-picked and sorted, then destemmed to an open fermenter, including 15% whole bunches for complexity and texture. Following a short cold soak, before ferment kicking off, the wine was tasted daily and plunged as required for 14 days then matured for eight months in new (25%) and one-year-old French barriques.
