Deep, dense purple.
Lifted notes of dark chocolate and fresh mint, with ripe black plums and rich, warming spice.
A delicious, smooth core of intense blackcurrant with added complexity from liquorice, fresh-ground coffee and notes of dried herbs. The tannins are super-fine, giving a rich, full mouthfeel and great length.
Drinking beautifully now, but will continue to develop over the next five to ten years.Download Tasting Notes
The 2017 growing season in the Geographe region was atypically late which allowed for gentle and even ripening of all varieties. Both the Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon components of the blend were sourced from select vineyards within Geographe. These vineyards produce extremely flavoursome fruit with tannins that are both fleshy and ripe.
Each batch of fruit was fermented separately in small batch open top fermenters for 12 days, with the cap plunged twice daily to create the vivid colour of the final wine. The wine was pressed gently and early to avoid excessive extraction of harsh phenolics. The wine was then matured in 30% new and 70% seasoned French oak barriques for 22 months. Each separate component was then individually barrel selected to determine the final blend before bottling in December 2018.
Delicious with a smoky, rich stew; especially an ox cheek based dish.
