Vintage

The 2017 growing season in the Geographe wine region was atypically late which allowed for gentle and even ripening of all varieties. The Grenache and Mourvèdre were sourced from select vineyards in the Geographe region. These vineyards produce extremely flavoursome fruit with tannins that are both fleshy and ripe. The Shiraz was sourced from both the Ferguson Valley in Geographe and Frankland River in the Great Southern, giving a spicy edge to the wine.

Winemaking

The fruit came into the winery at a perfect ripeness. It was de-stemmed before being fermented on skins for six days in open top fermenters. The wine was then pressed off and racked into seasoned French oak puncheons for four months.

Bottled December 2017.

A two-region (Geographe and Great Southern), three-variety blend with a spicy/savoury element that is as appealing as it was unexpected, partly a function of the very cool, late vintage.

Ray Jordan's Top 100 Reds - The West Australian - July 2018

Classic combo, more common in South Aussie, but nice to see an expression of it from the West. Grainy chalky tannins cut through the generous blue fruits with their spicy notes. Oak has been deftly applied so as not to dominate. You could drink a bit of this.

Winestate Magazine - May/June 2018

Jubey berry notes with a floral lift and underlying savoury spiciness. Good tannin backbone.
