Brilliant condition. Pale straw in colour with a fresh green rim.

Pear, stone-fruit and melon, with layers of wild herbs, subtle spice and a savoury twist of fresh bread.

Wonderfully fresh, flavoursome and subtly textural and complex. An original, pure and exciting expression of Margaret River Chardonnay.

Will continue to develop for up to five years from vintage.

A prolonged cool and wet growing season meant the vines were lush and healthy heading into ripening. This resulted in later maturity and harvest dates which was accentuated by the cool and wet ripening months, the wettest and coolest in Margaret River for more than 15 years. These conditions, coupled with the absence of heat events, produced highly aromatic whites with very low phenolic levels and high natural acidity. The month of April however, really saved our vintage! Although cool, it was extremely dry and allowed the last of the white varieties to achieve full ripeness.

This is the first vintage of Chardonnay to be made in the ever-popular Breathing Space range. Our vineyard used to create this wine consistently produces fruit with rich yet fresh flavours early in the season with the ideal acid balance to allow this wine to be bottled and released early without sacrificing texture or complexity. This ensures we create the class of Chardonnay expected from a region with such a prestigious history for the variety.

Cool, cloudy juice went into one year old French oak barriques and puncheons direct from the press. Here it was wild fermented to impart textural complexity, savoury elements and a distinct house style to the wine. On completion of a warm fermentation, each barrel went into a 10⁰C barrel hall where they were topped and stirred fortnightly for four months and then monthly until bottled.

The first vintage of chardonnay under this label. Cool, cloudy juice delivered direct to 1yo French oak, wild ferment at ambient temperatures, thence to 10 degrees C storage with stirring until bottled. It's amazing how a wine of this provenance and quality has a RRP of $19. To 2023.
