Deep opaque red with a bright crimson rim.

The nose opens with aromas of cedar like oak interwoven with vibrant red fruit characters of wild strawberry, redcurrant and complex characters of rosehip and fresh bay leaf.

The seamless palate is finely textured and powder fine tannins add length whilst framing alluring flavors of redcurrant and plum.

This wine will benefit from cellaring 10+ years.

The 2012 harvest in Margaret River continued a run of excellent vintages with slightly above average summer temperatures and average rainfall. Most importantly, for high quality Cabernet, the temperature was mild through February and March. This allowed premium fruit parcels to be picked in perfect condition in early April, prior to heavy rainfall later in the month. The fruit for the Grand Selection Wilyabrup was selected from a single block in a 40-year-old dry-grown vineyard. The wine was aged for 15 months in a combination of 40% new tight grain French oak and 60% seasoned oak barrels. The resultant wine is a selection of the very best five barrels from this barrel group and showcases a wine of classic regional expression and balance.

100% cabernet sauvignon. Has more purple in its crimson colour than Yallingup; there is a silky succulence to the mouthfeel of the pure cassis flavours, the fragrance of the bouquet heightened retrospectively by the medium-bodied palate; the tannins are super fine, the oak handling perfect, the length prodigious.

A new release wine that sits at the top of the Deep Woods tree, including the price tag. There’s also a Yallingup ‘Grand Selection’ wine. It's best site(s) and best barrels, and, additional care to bottle. Around 100 ‘cases’ are made, assuming 12 bottle packs. This vineyard is a forty-year-old, dry grown site. Mix of old and new wood for fifteen months. Mainlining Margaret River. Blue and red fruits, cassis, bayleaf, florals, eucalyptus, mahogany. Glorious perfume, vibrant, potent, pleasing. Silky, sweet-fruited wine of glossy texture that rolls on sleek fruit dusted with ultra fine, powdery tannins. The wine sits just medium weight, expansive, rolled sheets of silk-like texture, finishes mouthwatering. A quibble would be that it lacks a touch of drive and compactness to take it to the next level, but the drinking experience is sheer pleasure. Drink 2016–2027+.

Margaret River Panel Tasting – Highly Recommended

An enticing, lifted peppermint nose with red apple skin tones and youthful vigour. Superb depth of flavour that is perfectly ripe with a silky chocolate texture. Pithy and elegant tannins to finish off.
