Deep Woods 2017 Ivory Semillon Sauvignon Blanc - 94 points from Halliday Wine Companion 2019

2017 ivory semillon sauvignon blanc

Very pale in colour with brilliant green hues.

A delicate yet lifted nose exhibiting aromas of guava and lime laced with lemon blossom.

Intense citrus and passionfruit flavours abound on the palate. A level of green-fruited ‘crunch’ adds complexity. A zesty and refreshing acid backbone provides structure and length.

Best enjoyed in the first two years from vintage so as to capture the freshness and vibrancy of the wine.

Ivory is a classic blend of Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc produced from both select growers and Deep Woods Estate grown fruit.

The 2017 vintage certainly provided some challenges to the viticultural team. An atypically cold and wet February meant that careful canopy and crop management was required to ensure the fruit quality was retained.

This wine is comprised of Semillon from the northern part of the region where it achieved full ripeness, and Sauvignon Blanc, from the very south of Margaret River where the most exuberant fruit was found.

There's an almost savage overtone to this wine, and an unqualified purity as citrus and tropical fruits dance through the bouquet, the palate, the embers of the flavours. Lemony acidity sways through on the back-palate.

This is always a wonderful expressive value-for-money blended white. It's so punchy with passionfruit and tropical notes with a decent splash of citrus. Tangy and lively in the mouth. Cellar: 2 years.
