“Deep woods Reserve Chardonnay is a modern classic, refined, elegant with understated power and precision, I buy more of this wine than any other and this year will be no exception.”
Julian Langworthy, Chief Winemaker
Pale straw with brilliant flashes of green.
The nose is hugely complex, shy at first with flinty reduction and chipped shell characters. With time in the glass, it blossoms into joyous white stone fruits and lifted pure floral notes.
The palate is powerful but eminently poised. Redolent in white nectarine and citrus flavours, its amazing natural acid drive pulls the palate on a taut and expressive journey that seems to be infinite. Fine structure and latent power are the hallmarks of this exceptional wine.
Optimum drinking within five to ten years of vintage.
2019 was a tricky but very rewarding vintage in Margaret River. A steady, mild season allowed for slow, measured flavour development that resulted in balanced natural acidity and lifted varietal fruit character, resulting in wines with incredible perfume, true elegance and real personality.
This wine is an assemblage of one central Willyabrup vineyard, but with the majority of the fruit coming from an excellent mature vineyard in Wallcliffe and a small amount of fruit from Karridale.
The fruit was hand-picked and then chilled to maintain pristine condition. A minimalist approach in the winery included whole-bunch pressing, wild fermentation and sparing lees stirring in a mixture of new and seasoned French oak.
The individual parcels were kept separate and aged on lees for 9 months until the final wine was blended for bottling.
