This wine achieves the difficult balance of providing a wonderfully complex Chardonnay drinking experience without sacrificing fruit freshness and vitality. As a result, this expertly made wine will be just as rewarding to lay down as its red counterparts. It will very slowly develop more subtle complexities and character for years to come whilst ensuring fruit and hence regional character is the focal point of the Redbrook Reserve style.
Pale to mid straw with a fresh green rim.
Lifted aromas of citrus, pear, rock melon, honeydew and nectarine fruits with subtle dried herb notes.
Freshly toasted spices, malt and tropical notes from wild barrel fermentation persist, with layers of complexity that will develop beautifully over time.
Although beautiful now, will continue to develop complexity for at least ten years from vintage.
2016 was a truly distinct vintage. A dry, warm season was punctuated with rain occurring in late January. High rainfall pushed back harvest dates and allowed for better vine balance during ripening. The resultant fruit had wonderful thick skins, incredible concentration and excellent varietal identity.
At perfect ripeness, the fruit was hand-picked in the early hours of the morning. The gently pressed juice was stirred every six weeks with 100% wild yeast on full solids before ten months on yeast lees in tank. No malolactic fermentation occurred.
The wine was the aged in a combination of 90% one-year-old and 10% new oak barrels. Bottled in January 2017 before being left for maturation in bottle for a year.
Fried lemon & almond coated King George Whiting with crab salad.
Hand-picked, whole-bunch pressed direct to barrel, 10 months maturation. Tightly woven and focused on the fruit from the opening stanza to the finish and aftertaste, winemaker artefacts conspicuous by their absence. the white fleshed stone fruits, Granny Smith apple and pink grapefruit are all there in perfect balance.

Wow. This is a thoroughly beautiful chardonnay. The striking feature is its delicacy and restraint while still delivering a persistent and insistent palate length. Restrained grapefruit and melon aroma with a muted backdrop of smoky oak. The palate is relentless as it pushes with precision and focus towards an extended finish. Dry, savoury finish puts the final touch to an exquisite wine. Cellar ten years.97
