Bright, deep ruby red with purple hues.
The wine reveals a wonderful array of red and black fruit and spice, with underlying floral notes on the nose.
A medium- to full-bodied wine with red and black berry fruit characters and a succulent mid-palate. Excellent oak integration and intense fruit are finely balanced with an elegant and persistent finish.
Potential to age for 10–15 years.
"The Millbrook Estate vineyard in the Perth Hills is a special site, in that the ripening of Shiraz and Viognier invariably occurs at the same time, allowing for the co-fermentation of the two varieties for this flagship Estate Shiraz Viognier. It's on the menu in the Millbrook restaurant with grass-fed lamb."

The estate-grown vines were planted in 1996 on a shallow lateritic gravel soil ridge with a south-west aspect. The growing season was ideal for the red grape varieties, which resulted in spicy and ripe berry characters in the resultant fruit. Shoot and bunch thinning allowed optimum ripening at a crop level of 5 tonnes per hectare.
The fruit was handpicked, de-stemmed and chilled to 14°C for cold soaking upon a layer of whole bunch Viognier in open top fermenters. After inoculation the caps were hand-plunged twice daily and temperatures were kept below 30°C. Fermentation typically lasts 12–14 days. After settling, all batches were kept in stainless steel tanks for malolactic fermentation then racked to oak for maturation.
The 100% French oak used was 30% new, 50% one-year-old and 20% two-year-old from the Le Grand, Francois Freres and Saury cooperages. After 20 months maturation the wine was minimally filtered and bottled in December 2015.

Fillet steak with an onion gravy.
The oak threatens to dominate proceedings, but in the end the luscious array of red and black fruits stands firm on the medium-bodied palate, its length and finish excellent. As good as they come from the Perth Hills.95
Millbrook...has been a champion of viognier and this blend. Once again the guys have got it right with the dominance of the shiraz the striking feature and the spicy aromatic viognier bringing some additional lift on the nose. Plump and fleshy with a driving finish.95
